Heart of Texas Veterinary Specialty Center provides the latest in specialized veterinary surgical equipment and techniques. Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure used by orthopedic surgeons to visualize, diagnose, and treat problems associated with your pet’s joints.

Diagnosing Joint Injury and Disease

Diagnosing joint injury and disease begins with a thorough medical history, physical examination, and advanced veterinary imaging such as X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or computed tomography (CT). Through the arthroscope, a final diagnosis is made, which may be more accurate than through “open” surgery or from X-ray studies.

Joint Disease Corrective Surgery

Disease and injuries can damage bones, cartilage, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.

Some of the most frequent conditions found during arthroscopic examinations of joints are:

  • Arthritis
  • Rotator cuff surgery
  • Repair or resection of torn cartilage (meniscus) from knee or shoulder
  • Reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament in knee
  • Removal of inflamed lining (synovium) in knee, shoulder, elbow, or ankle
  • Repair of torn ligaments
  • Removal of loose bone or cartilage in knee, shoulder, elbow, or ankle

Pet Arthroscopic Surgery by Referral

A referral is not required for our arthroscopic surgical service. However, many of our arthroscopic surgeries are performed based on a veterinary referral. We work closely with your pet’s primary care veterinarian, they will receive phone updates, written reports regarding the procedure performed, prognosis, after care, and medications recommended for your pet.

Our dedicated team of experienced board-certified veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff use their extensive experience, skill, and love for animals to provide your pet with outstanding specialty care. Please contact us to make an appointment.
